Keep On Licking

“How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?”
If you remember that commercial from the ’80’s, you know the final answer was “the world may never know.”
That’s because - according to the wise owl - no one could ever resist “biting it” before getting to the delicious center.
So what if I asked, “How long does it take to turn your dream into a reality?”
The likely answer would be “the world may never know.”
Because many of us will stop chasing our dreams when things get difficult.
But not police Sergeant Erik Lavigne!
He would say 9 years… mainly because he never gave up.
Erik’s dream started in graduate school at TCU… when he wrote his master’s thesis on the use of social media as a tool for police to reach their community on a more personal level.
He wanted more transparency and engagement.,. not the typical echo chambers
When the pandemic hit, he decided to create a podcast. He knew nothing about production but he had time to learn.
That’s how the “Two Cops One Donut” podcast was born. It was a place where cops could share experiences, speak openly and honestly, but also call each other out - hold their feet to the fire and remind each other why they became cops in the first place.
Eventually he had a team of officers joining him to discuss “cop stuff” with plenty of humor thrown in.
Detective Matt Thornton in Illinois.
Officer Banning Sweatland in Texas.
Officer Trey Mosley in California.
Officer Kat Clark in New York.
Jared Kosina in Arizona.
But Erik didn’t stop there.
His dream was to reach more people by including all first responders - not just cops. To tell the real stories behind the badge - stories you won’t find on network television.
And to dig deeper - to spread understanding and knowledge, but also entertain.
That’s what "DTV the donut" is all about.
When Erik told us his dream…Chris Hatchett and I jumped on board and have been using our skills to help him build a unique YouTube channel - featuring a slate of programming worthy of being on legacy television.
Now, as we launch DTV’s website…and reach out to investors and sponsors for support and funding for programming, I want to thank Erik for the opportunity to get behind a mission and a dream that is clearly more important than ever.
His dream has now become ours.. and we are just beginning. Check it out!
